A great organization to support
Tue Nov 24th, 2020
💜In Lieu of Our Annual Event, This Year We Pause to Give Thanks.💜
There has never been a more important time to be thankful to all of our previous years’ donors, sponsors and vendors.
The Pandemic within the Pandemic
Stay-at-home orders, job loss, remote learning, upticks in alcohol and drug abuse, fear of CV19 in hospitals and reduced occupancy in shelters due to social distancing have created a surge in domestic violence but have reduced survivors’ odds of seeking help.
JWL recognizes this tragic phenomenon and though we have not been able to host our fundraising event this year, we continue to support our previous giving partners.
You Can Help Us Help Them
By donating today. 100% of proceeds go towards our giving partners, the shelters and survivors. Joanswishlist.org #enddomesticviolence #jwl #jwlgivingthanks #joanswishlist #givingtuesday #givingtuesday2020 ... See MoreSee Less

Thanks to @joanswishlist we were able to help this Mother of two to feel safe, have hope and heal from an abusive relationship that she got out of 30 days ago. Domestic Violence and Mental Abuse numbers are rising since Quarantining was put in place. This Mom is a hard worker and great Mother that needed our help to stand strong for herself and her children. We also connected her to our partner organization @su.casa.ending.dv for support. Claudia was in tears of joy when we surprised her with a check of $1,500 to help with her bills, clothing and food. Thanks to all of our donor to help us with Moments like these. #StrongerTogether #speakout #youhaveavoice #help #heal #hope #jwl #stopdomesticviolence #stopmentalabuse #love #family #children #happy #life ... Women share horrific photos of injuries to raise awareness of domestic violence as 14 are killed since start of lockdown.
London — Six months of lockdowns to prevent the spread of COVID-19 could lead to 31 million additional cases of domestic violence globally, the United Nations warned Tuesday.
"It is a growing crisis within the crisis. We need to pay maximum attention to this now," Dr. Ramiz Alakbarov, deputy director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the UN's sexual and reproductive health agency, told CBS News.
In a paper using data from Johns Hopkins University, Avenir Health, and Victoria University in Australia, the UNFPA predicted that if strict lockdowns continue for a year, there will be an additional 61 million cases of domestic abuse above what would have already been expected to occur.
WITH HALF the world’s population under some form of lockdown to slow the spread of covid-19, most activities have been dramatically curtailed, including illegal ones. Official figures suggest that crime has plummeted in many big cities. Violent crime, including murder, rape and assault, has fallen even more sharply. But as lockdowns began, campaigners sounded warnings that domestic violence—a crime committed in private, in people’s homes—would become more, not less, frequent. Those fears appear to have been borne out.
An analysis by The Economist of data from five big American cities indicates that although most types of crime have indeed fallen in recent weeks, reports of domestic violence have increased. Sifting through over 100,000 reports from police departments in Chicago, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Memphis and New Orleans, which all went into lockdown between March 19th and 24th, we estimate that total crime soon fell by 25%, compared with the week ending on March 1st. However, reports of domestic violence increased by 5%. (Because crimes follow a marked weekly pattern, our chart shows seven-day averages.)

Nearly 700,000 children are abused in the U.S annually.
An estimated 683,000 children (unique incidents) were victims of abuse and neglect in 2015, the most recent year for which there is national data.
